So, with all of this about Paul Walker dying, I really feel the need to bring a little awareness to this issue. About two weeks ago, Staff Sergeant Vazquez, a green beret, was KIA in Panjwai district (in Kandahar province), Afghanistan after being hit by an IED during a dismounted (on foot) patrol.
Sorry to be a downer, or whatever, but I feel this was greatly over shadowed. While there was all of this coverage on Paul Walker, the death of a green beret (a very select few in the American military) was completely unheard of, save his local news paper, the Green Beret foundation, and a few military-focused publications.
The real reason why this upsets me (call me selfish) is that he was in the area near where I served my deployment to Afghanistan. I’ve seen the things that he’s seen, and not a lot of it is pretty. All I want to do is raise a little awareness for what this man and his family, friends, and unit have gone through.
